Maisies

My Mother started off with her own smallholding and opened a village shop where she lived in Long Street, Hanslope. She then ventured into Wolverton with one market stall in the old Wolverton Market, located in the current day Town Council building. She sold all manner of discount items, such as food, toys, shoes and clothing. She then progressed to several stalls.

Then, in 1963, she opened her first discount shop in Wolverton called ‘Maisie Summerfield’ at rented premises in 79 Church Street. Later she expanded by opening additional stores.

The current building we trade from today was purpose built in the 1930’s for the Co-op. When they left the town around 1994, my mother at 80 years old, purchased the building. All the stock from her other stores were transferred into it, apart from fresh groceries. On the first floor we stocked household goods, hardware, curtains, flooring and menswear. Downstairs was full of children’s and ladies clothing.

Today we focus on three business areas, outsize menswear, footwear and school wear. We have the technology on site to print and embroider clothing with any type of wording or logo for clubs, and workwear. We supply about 40 different schools across the whole of Milton Keynes and have two websites which focus on our school wear and menswear.

It’s been a natural progression for three generations of women to follow in my Mother’s strong and successful footsteps, all made possible due to the service and price you get at Maisies .
